AHAO supports research evidence

Research supported by the Australian Healthy Ageing Organisation was recently accepted for publication in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry. The paper, Predictive Factors for Verbal Memory Performance Over Decades of Aging: Data from the Women's Healthy Ageing Project, was also featured in a number of national and international media outlets, including Medscape Medical News, Nine News Melbourne, and the Australian Financial Review.

Why are we interested in dementia?

People are living longer and our population is ageing. The worldwide population of people 65 years and over will increase by 188%, and the numbers of those aged 100 and older will increase by 1,004%. The prevalence of dementia increases with age – while 1.3% of those aged 60-64 years will have dementia, this increases to 11.6% in those aged 80-84 years and 41.5% in those aged 90 years and older.
